Get ready for farmers' market season with this fantastic knit bag. The bottom closes up tightly into a donut shape, so your fruits and veggies will spread out and not squish each other. Knit in strong cotton, this bag will last you many seasons to come.
The pattern will be listed here as a FREE download on April 3.

Hi all!
Just want to check in and make sure of two things:
1. Everyone got their bags finished, or if you've paused your bag it isn't because you're stuck.
2. Did I get everyone's prizes to them? I'd feel terrible if I overlooked sending something you were supposed to get! Please, please tell me if I missed anything!
Hope everyone's having a great week!
Looks like Iโll be trying this again when I can eventually get more yarn. My daughter wants me to knit one for her now! ๐

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 15, 2020: LAST DAY AND PRIZES!!!
Everyone's bags look so great! I hope you're happy with how they turned out, and that they give you many years of wonderful service. I LOVE bags. I used to make fun of my mother for buying so many purses. But I get it now, Mom. I get it.
Spinning the Wheel Decide wheel today was SO MUCH FUN! I kept track every day of who posted that day, and then I entered your name in the Wheel every day that you posted. So the wheel had like 40 entries in it! It was really cool! Thank you for your fabulous participation!

This has been a really fun KAL, despite a bumpy start for a few people. Carla, thanks for hanging around and cheerleading, too! I hope everyone will be able to join in on May 4 for the next KAL/CAL, making Mesh Produce Bags. And as always, this thread will remain open if anyone needs ongoing help (or just a place to socialize!), and we can always chat with each other via the little round (brown) chat box in the lower right corner.
Thanks again, everyone!

Happy Easter, everyone!
HAPPY EASTER!
In our house the Easter bunny (fortunately) woke up early, came to the kitchen and poured a cup of coffee, then realized she never did the Easter baskets last night! Mission successfully completed before the first kiddo got up! They're 12, 14, and 16, though. Might be time to tell them who the Easter Bunny is? (Ha ha!)
Hope everyone is having a blessed Easter weekend. Since no one is going anywhere, if you have any questions about your bags, I'll be here all day! (All week. All month. Oh dear...)
Wait! I got the bindoff part now. I repeat the same thing on the other side & stitch them together on top?
Just saw your reply about using a double strand. Do you think thatโs the better way to go?
Ok, new quick question! I fortuitously ended up getting some more cotton yarn today from a neighbor...yay!! Question is can I carry on & knit with the new yarn which is 2 ply? Iโve been knitting with a 4ply cotton/linen mix. Sending photos of the labels for comparison & how it knits up. It actually seems to have much nicer stitch definition. Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks ๐
HAPPY SATURDAY!
How is everyone feeling about their progress? Do you think you'll be able to finish "on time"? It's no big deal if not, just wondering if I set the pacing up well or not.
I love seeing your bags growing! I love farmers markets, and I so hope we'll be able to have them this year. I am working on putting in more of a back-yard garden than I've done in the past, hoping to grow more of my own veggies this year. I suspect the squirrels will be my biggest nemesis.
The picture to the right is a coaster I just made. Hideous, isn't it? But it's made with the very first wool I ever spun myself!
My father is a woodworker, and several years ago he got it into his head to make a spinning wheel. I knew where this would end up.
He entered the spinning wheel into an art show and won! But he wasn't able to sell it for any decent price-- people can buy assembly-line manufactured pieces for so much cheaper than handmade (as we well know) and he didn't want to sell it cheaply. After a couple of years of me insisting I did not want to start a new hobby, the spinning wheel ended up in my car on the way home from a visit to my parents.
It has been quite the learning curve, but I've finally got the mechanism figured out! Now I'm working on making better quality fiber. But Dad's birthday is next month, and I decided to make him something out of that very first bobbin-full of "yarn".
Now Dad's talking about making a full-size loom. "Wouldn't you like to weave your own cloth?" he keeps asking me.
My father needs his energies redirected. ๐
Thanks for the feedback Nicole & Lauren. I tried and could pull it apart and break the yarn easily. So Iโll scratch that Idea. Looks like I Will hav to make it a bit shorter or hav it be a bit more colorful than Iโd ideally like. ๐ ๐
Ladies, quick question...for my bag Iโm using what I have here, which is mostly a roughly 50:50 cotton/linen blend #4. Itโs going down pretty fast. I also hav an end of a 70%silk with 30% baby llama, also #4. Would this be as strong as the cotton/linen blend ? And do you think it would work to mix that in with the cotton/linen for this project? I donโt hav enough of any one color so Iโll be using different colors anyway.
Thanks for your thoughts ๐ท
Hi, Iโm Lauren, a late join thanks to the invite from Lou, one of my dearest knitting friends! But I started in yesterday with a very sturdy cotton... Iโve wrestled through the really tight parts. Now Iโm calling it my seashell bag because every time I put it down it curls up into a different seashell shape. Maybe someday Iโll use it to carry some nice big seashells I want to shake out...
FRIDAY, APRIL 10, 2020
I think just Nic & Lou are left working on project bags, so I'm not going to post daily updates with the daily goal. We'll just keep working and posting more casually.
@visgirl We're so sorry about your family's loss. Our hearts are sad for you all.
@carlap2 I'm sorry that the bag pattern was so troublesome, but sometimes you just have to cut your losses, right? I'm sure that yarn will work up into something else lovely!
Hope that you're looking forward to a somewhat relaxing weekend!
Hi everyone, I had to give up too. My brother-in-law died this morning. These last few days have been very difficult for us. Sorry!
I think it would be very helpful to have a stitch count on Round 1 of the bag side. It would have really helped me to have a stitch count.
I decided to keep going and make a smaller bag.
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 8, 2020: Finish up to 1/2 of the bag length.
The GIF image this morning is in honor of my poor cat, Jasmine. We took her to the vet this morning, because my daughter pointed out that Jasmine's claws had overgrown, curled back, and were growing into her paw pads. I thought Jasmine was walking funny because she's 15 years old and probably has arthritis. Turns out it was her claws. But the good news is we caught it in time and the claws had not embedded in the pads! The vet clipped them and she's back home again with no wounds! (Except for her wounded pride. She's under the sewing machine right now, giving the hairy eyeball to anyone who comes near her.)
All that to say, the emergency trip to the vet is why I'm a little later than usual to post this morning.
It looks like most everyone has gotten well into the bag. Visgirl, how is it going for you? I hope third time was a charm? I'm sorry you're having trouble getting going. Let us know if we can help!
About the riddle: How many sheep does it take to make a sweater? We got answers from Visgirl, Carla, & Lou. The correct answer (according to the joke sheet I found, anyway) is ZERO, because sheep can't knit or crochet. ๐
According to wheeldecide.com, the winner of a free book download is... Lou!!!
Lou, please select any (single-- not the Drawn Series Boxed Set, please) book from this shelf at Smashwords: https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/MariaKeffler
(Scroll down a bit to see the books list. "Drawn" is free right now as a gift to anyone who needs reading material for the quarantine, so you can get that if you want, but pick something else as well!)
Tomorrow is a break day, so no new goals to achieve. Take the day off, catch up, or get ahead as you like!
Hope everyone is having a good week!
Looks like weโbe made about the same amount of progress. I did put in a few hours today too.
And Iโd say maybe one fleece of a sheep ๐ for the sweater ๐คท๐ผโโ๏ธ๐
Does the t2R move over on every row?
Thanks! last time I stayed on the dpns for 65 sts on each needle, is that right?
This will be my 3rd (and final!) attempt๐ณ
I donโt think it takes any sheep to knit a sweater, sheep canโt knit! ( and today neither can I!)
I have a couple of questions on round 2of the bag sides, am I basically dropping one of the yarn overs? Round 4, do I work the parentheses 20 times than the t2R? I am struggling with the pattern.
I have a question. My pattern reading abilities are limited.๐ I just want to make sure that I understand it correctly. ๐
once I start the bag sides, do I do both the t2R and then k3tog & yo2 all 20 times and then k3tog after? Iโm not sure how much of it is repeated 20times. If you could please break it down for me. That would be great. Thanks ๐
Iโm going to pull it out. Maybe I should use a bigger needle or a smaller cable? My cable choices are 24 or 32
Itโs a mess! I canโt straighten out the cord and I canโt get the right angle to k3tog
This is my progress for today. I found out the hard way that magic loop does not work for this project. I also found out that you can not change to circular needles until the bottom can spread out at the bottom of the needles.
Hmm, oh well! This is my first time knitting from a cone. The ball band says itโs for knitting machines and weaving looms? Colors are Cream & Brown and the price was free๐
Good morning! Iโm in. Iโm trying to figure out how to read the 6 comments above!
SUNDAY, APRIL 5, 2020: STARTING THE KAL! Introductions & Yarn Photos
Good morning, knitters!
We have a very small group so far, primarily because I have failed to adequately advertise this KAL. I seem to be in long-term vacation mode during this period of isolation. On one hand it's been great for relaxing and getting lots of home projects done. (I painted rocks for my garden this week!) But on the other hand, I'm not keeping up with stuff I really should be doing.
So, we may be a tiny circle of knitters this time!
We'll do things a little differently this time, and rather than having prizes every day I'll keep track of who posts each day, and each day you post you'll get an entry into the final prize awards at the end. We'll do first-, second-, and third prizes, for number of posts (up to one per day-- multiple posts are fantastic, but don't count as extra entries), and we'll have a drawing for a Grand Prize.
First Prize: Three Free Patterns from Wylde & Plumb
Second Prize: Two Free Pattern from Wylde & Plumb
Third Prize: One Free Pattern from Wylde & Plumb
Grand Prize: A Magnetic Bookmark, Card of Your Choice, & a Free Pattern from Wylde & Plumb
Looking forward to seeing who's all in and what yarn you'll be using for your Market Bag!
APPLE-BOTTOM MARKET BAG PATTERN: Free through April 15, 2020
Click the link below to download the Apple-Bottom Market Bag pattern. The KAL starts on Sunday, April 5!
Email issues (hopefully!) resolved. Iโm in
