Good morning, beautiful knitters!
I only saw photos from Elsie, Carla, & Missy yesterday, is that right? Beautiful work, everyone! Thanks so much for joining in, everyone!
I put Elsie's, Carla's, & Missy's names into www.wheeldecide.com and the wheel of destiny chose...
Missy!
Missy please visit Wylde & Plumb's Etsy page and pick out a Magnetic Bookmark/Line Holder for yourself! Or, since you haven't won a pattern yet, if you'd rather have a free pattern, that's perfectly okay too! You can peruse those up top in the KNIT Patterns and CROCHET Patterns tabs.
This KAL has officially closed! But this thread will remain open, so always feel free to check back in and continue the conversation, or just look back at any of the help posts. The coupon code for taking 25% off any Wylde & Plumb pattern on Etsy is good through the end of today (Feb. 25). That code is LINEN2020. If you see a pattern on this website that isn't on Etsy just let me know and I'll list it. Haven't gotten them all over there yet!
I'm going to take the Linen Stitch Washcloth pattern down (from the February 14 comment, where it was listed for free for this KAL), just FYI.
The next Wylde & Plumb KAL starts up March 1! Please see the link below! Hope you'll pop over and join the thread. Even if you're not able to participate, we love cheerleaders!
Thank you all for participating! You're amazing ladies!

I got one done...Yay! Only took me about 10 tries. It's smaller, I only used 32 sts, and I had to use size 10.5 needles, and it still looks tight. I keep wanting to knit or purl the slipped stitch.
Here is the lineup
Here is my latest. Not sure the long gradient worked all that well.
I posted on Instagram and Facebook. I made 5 Ravelry pages. I had made two cloths before the knit along started. I don know how to add a Ravelry page here.
Sounds wonderful, hope to have something camera worthy by end of day.
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 24, 2020 Today is the FINAL DAY of our Linen Stitch Washcloth KAL! Please post pictures here of your beautiful finished products or WIPs. Everyone who posts a photo today will be in the running for a Magnetic Bookmark of your choice from Wylde & Plumb's Etsy store!
Looking forward to seeing everyone's beautiful work!
Two things are motivating me with this KAL. One fascination with how different this one stitch plays out with different numbers and types of yarn And two, after a hiatis in making dishcloths I’m motivated once again to build up a supply for future gift giving. I’ll probably go back to some of my former patterns, especially the two color ones as well. I did start one more tricolor this morning, but may not finish during this KAL because I have a couple WIPs to get back too. It’s been fun.
Good morning, all! I'm packing up myself and my girlies and about to hit the road for a nine-hour drive from Indiana to Virginia, but wanted to pop in here and announce the winner from yesterday....
Kasandra! Please pick a pattern you like from the KNIT Patterns or CROCHET Patterns menu above! I'll be out of touch for most of the day but I'll get your selection to you ASAP when I get home!
Have a great day, friends!
Tri-color cloth finished and I’m pleased with the result. Might start one
more as now I’m curious how it will work out if one of the strands is a long gradient. As always there will be more photos on Instagram. Elsiemarley22
IIt got really nice. Love the way the colors pool.
I finished number 3 with three strands. I spent most of the day knitting. The colors are much brighter than the picture. I really like it.
Well, I didn’t get nearly as far as I‘d hoped, BUT I have a 3-year-old who spent the day in big girl undies and stayed dry, so...I‘m calling it a,win!
I really love the look of the three color version! Constantly juggling the skeins to avoid tangling, not so much, but it’s worth it!
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 2020 Friday's winner is...
Elsie! (melrod2024) Please pick out a pattern you'd like from the KNIT Patterns or CROCHET Patterns above! Congrats, and thanks for all the beautiful photos!
Hope everyone is happy with their progress-- it looks like you're doing a beautiful job, and I hope you love the finished products. Three-color Linen Stitch is my favorite, because the pattern is just so intriguing, and I love being able to add in little scraps of yarn to my heart's content.
We'll take a break tomorrow (I'll try to announce the winner here before I get on the road, though! But if you don't hear from me early it's because my morning went awry.) Monday (Feb. 24) will be the last day of this KAL, and the prize for photo entries will be a Magnetic Bookmark/Line Holder (or, if you already have one, a greeting card from Wylde & Plumb).
Have a great day and weekend!
Wow! This is working up nicely . Amazing how different this looks from the two color. It’s like a whole new stitch. Love the honeycomb look!
Nice spring colors!
I made it to the half way mark. The picture is a little dark.
A start has been made.
OK then, I’m going to do a three color which I originally thought I was not interested in. But now I’m intriqued! Using three solid colors for my cloth #4.
This was a fun experiment in striping, alternating 2.4.& 6 rows of the two colors, one varigated and the other with a random fleck. I’ll be posting more views on Instagram where you will find me as elsiemarley22
I would like the Tasseled Jute Basket, thank you
Oh, thanks I guess I was just trying to figure it out in my head instead of hands on. LOL. I’ll give it a go, I like the looks of it.😉

Yesterday's winner of a free Wylde & Plumb pattern is...
Carla! Let me know which pattern you'd like to have!
Today we're starting the 3-color washcloth, or continuing to work on whatever you're working on! I wasn't sure in the beginning if I'd made the schedule a little too draconian, but everyone seems to be getting along just fine. Let us know if you're having any trouble. I've seen a few questions and pictures over at Instagram, but it's harder for me to keep track of those.
Just a reminder that we have today and tomorrow, then a break day on Sunday (because I'll be driving ten hours back to home after a lovely week with my folks), and then the last day will be Monday.
Happy Knitting! (And welcome, again, to jugglesleep!)
Welcome to jugglesleep! So glad you could join us, and it looks like you've got Linen Stitch down! Have you used this stitch before?
Playing around with some single color stripes this time. Designing as I go, Rather improve and not symmetrical
.
I started the three color cloth. I changed to size 7 needles and the stitches look better. The different skeins are not showing much. I think it is going to be pretty.
Love the Mapling Shawl!
Almost done. I’ll have to finish tomorrow.
It looks fine, not sure a perfect square is that essential. Love the way the colors worked out.
I meas and thought it was square. After I did the bind off, I found out it was about an 1” short. I tried to block it. I don’t know why it looks lopsided.
I
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 20, 2020: Yesterday's winner is... Elsie! (Melrod2240) Please choose a book from Maria Keffler's bookshelf on Amazon. The download will come via Smashwords (Amazon doesn't make it easy to give free books away-- greedy buggers), but choose any one from this page: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=maria+keffler&ref=nb_sb_noss
Today we'll finish up the two-color washcloth (or whatever one you're working on!). It's so much fun to see all the beautiful washcloths coming off everyone's hooks!
Sorry I've been MIA today. I'm at my parents' in northern Indiana, and the cell service here is spotty. My folks' WiFi was acting up today too, so I've had trouble getting connected.
I love what you're all doing! It's so much fun to see these beautiful washcloths coming off your needles!
I'll post today's winner in the morning (provided the Wi-Fi lets me!) and Nic I'll get that pattern to you in the morning as well. Shut my laptop off for the night already!
Sleep well, knit well, friends!
Beautiful! I love that!
Getting a jump on Christmas with this combo.
I like the effect of the stripe yarn.
Here is my second cloth. Loving the way this works up. Great side edges. Checkout my Instagram for another view. Elsiemarley22
So many choices. Can you guess which color combo I’ll cast on next?
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 19, 2020. Yesterday's winner is... Nicole! Check out the patterns in the KNIT Patterns & CROCHET Patterns links above and pick out one you'd like to have! Today we start the two-color washcloth, if you're up to that point and haven't started it yet. You'll cast on in color A, work one WS row in that color, then switch to color B and work two rows, then back to color A for two rows, etc. This makes a sort of tweedy/herringbone kind of pattern.
Looking forward to seeing more pictures! If you're having any troubles at all, please let the group know so we can help you out. And if you know anyone else who would like to join in, they can jump in any time! Ready... set... GO!
I read this on a Facebook page. If you put a hair clip on the end of the yarn, it can’t unravel. It is a really good idea.
Done except for the bind off. I’m using Brittany Birch needles size 6. Now to finish my wine. :)
I am u
sing size 7 needles from Knit Picks.
This is what I'm working on in Linen Stitch right now. It's a sweater, and this is the front panel. I put an inset pocket here, but otherwise there will be no shaping or tricky stuff, just four rectangular pieces: front, back, and two sleeves. It will have a boat neck when I'm done, but I'll probably pick up and knit a collar.
My second cloth is going better than the first —in part because there is more contrast between the yarns
. Here are the 9” needles I’m using. There are my go-to for dishcloths. I have good results with the #7.
Can I see everyone's knitting needles that you're using for this KAL?💜💚💙
Oooh yay! Thanks! I’ll go take a look.
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 18, 2020 Yesterday's contest winner is... Kasandra! Congratulations! You win a digital book download from Maria Keffler's bookshelf. Take a look and let us know what you'd like. The download will come from Smashwords.com, but please choose a book from the Amazon page (it's easier to scroll through the books here): https://www.amazon.com/s?k=maria+keffler&ref=nb_sb_noss_1 Today we finish up our one-color washcloth (if able) and tomorrow we'll start the two-color. But there is NO PRESSURE to stay on schedule. Take as much time as you need, or work ahead as much as you want. Everyone who posts a picture of wherever you are each day will be entered for a prize. Today's prize (announced tomorrow morning) will be a free pattern from Wylde & Plumb. Hope everyone's having a good week!
Ooh can't wait to see
I like the solid color.
Here‘s what I’ve got for today after chasing a toddler around. Hoped to get further. Tomorrow is a new day.
Not sure why my previous photo turned sidewise No matter. Here is my yarn for another caston this evening. Think I have the rythem down now and proceed more smoothly.
I’ve caught myself doing that too. Irritating.
Finished my first — know there are a few missteps where my hands went into auto pilot and did a pearl instead of a slip. For more photos see my Instagram account. Elsiemarley22
This is not related to the Knit Along. My picture of the crocus made the state news!
Just an interesting tidbit, the Linen stitch seems to be in none of my pattern books. Interesting 🙄🤔❣️
I am moving along. I actually started a little early when we got the pattern.
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 17: Start One-Color Washcloth! The photo below is NOT one-color, but I put it in for the explanation below. Please post photos today of your progress-- any start at all counts! Tomorrow's prize will be a book from Maria Keffler's bookshelf! https://www.amazon.com/s?k=maria+keffler&ref=nb_sb_noss_1
If you're having trouble getting the pattern going, take a close look at the photo above because I'm betting the trouble is where you're carrying your yarn.
For Linen Stitch, the yarn is always carried on the RS (right side) of the fabric when you slip a stitch. If you can see above, the horizontal line made by the carried yarn always covers the slipped stitch on the RS. So when you're working on the RS, you knit 1 stitch, slip 1 stitch with the yarn carried in FRONT of the slipped stitch, then repeat. When you're working on the WS (wrong side) you purl 1 stitch, slip 1 stitch with yarn carried in BACK of the slipped stitch, then repeat.
It's those carried yarn strands that make the RS of the fabric flat and smooth. The WS is all bobbly from the purls.
Hope that makes sense and helps!
The winner for Sunday's drawing is.... CARLA! Congratulations, Carla! Take a look at the KNIT Patterns & CROCHET Patterns above and pick out one you'd like! So happy to have everyone participating! I understand it's not going swimmingly for everyone yet, so let me post a little help...
It's 10:30 where I am so I'm heading to bed. But I'll be back in the morning to announce the winner from today's entries (everyone who introduced themselves). Have a great evening, all!
I'm in! My stash is rich in a lot of things, but cotton is not one of them. These are the only two skeins of cotton I have. I'll actually have to make a trip to the store for white and tan. But this will get me started.
I'm a native West Virginian, currently living in PA. I've been knitting since I was 8, when Mom taught me as part of a 4-H project. Didn't knit much then, but I picked the needles back up in grad school as a way to unwind. My favorite size needle is 2.
Yep! You can just download it from the link in a comment above (with the picture of the front page of the pattern). As long as the link is there it's available for free!
Is the pattern still free?
Hi Marley, and welcome! That yarn is gorgeous too! I can't wait to see how everyone's washcloths come out. I love how the multi-color Linen Stitch makes such interesting color patterns.
I’m Marley, retired and live alone with plenty of time to do needlework while listening to audio books or streaming Great Courses. I normally have several projects in progress. Have knit 100‘s of dishclothes with many patterns but this is my first with this stitch. I have chosen to start with two colos to use up partial skeins with full ones already in my stash. Here is my first choice:
This is the yarn for the washcloth I am starting today.
I am retired teacher living in West Virginia. I began my career in home economics which I loved teaching! I reti in special education, I liked working with the kids. I actually like middle school students.
i live with mother and cat, Purl.
i have already made two Linen Stitch Wahcloths and really like them. I have yarn pick
ed out to start another one.
DAY 1: FEBRUARY 16 -- INTRODUCTIONS & YARN
Welcome to the first day of our Linen Stitch Washcloths KAL! Today let's introduce ourselves and show a photo or give a link to what yarn we're using for our washcloths.
I'm Maria, of Wylde & Plumb. I'm actually on a vacation with my daughters (left the boys at home because they didn't have the week off their jobs/school like we do!) at my parents' house in Indiana this week, and I'm in the middle of a sweater project (and neglected to bring any cotton yarn with me), so I'm not making a washcloth this week. But I'm here to help anyone who's having any trouble. I know a couple of the participants here are also old hands at Linen Stitch too, so we can all help each other. Everyone who posts today is entered in a contest for a prize, and today's prize will be a free pattern from Wylde & Plumb. Check out our listings above in the KNIT Patterns and CROCHET Patterns tabs.
Also, all participants this week get a 25% off coupon for any patterns we have listed on Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/shop/AllMKDesigns Not all of our patterns are listed there, so if you see a pattern on our website that isn't listed on Etsy let us know and we'll put it up for you! The coupon code is LINEN2020, and is good through February 24, and you can get as many patterns at 25% off as you like! We're also kind of excited about this Christmas Advent Tree pattern, which is also available in the 25% off offer. Just our little thank-you for participating this week! Can't wait to meet all of you! And please feel free to invite anyone you know who likes to knit washcloths. We're here all week!
I'm in for this!
Thank you! Please do spread the word and the love!
[UPDATE 2/25/2020: Free pattern has been removed from this post. Click the photo below to see this pattern on Etsy.]
A few hours early, but what's that among friends? Here's the pattern for the KAL! (Click the PDF link below the photo.) Feel free to invite any knitting friends over to give it a go. We'll get started on Sunday, Feb. 16, with introductions and yarn photos!
Sounds like a good weekend project and I love learning new stitches. I’m in!
Is everyone getting their yarn ready? The pattern will be available here Friday (Originally this post read "tomorrow", but I was a day ahead of myself-- sorry!)!
Three days to go...
Getting excited about this one! Just a few more days!
It's been suggested that the schedule might be a little too ambitious. Maybe so. But we're not going to worry about keeping up with the Joneses, or with the Junes, Janes, or Joanns. Everyone can plug along at their very own speed!
So cute!
I agree!
Autocorrect is horrible! I quote something I read on Facebook: "Whoever invented autocorrect should burn in hello." 😆
Did I mention I’m an iffy texter? Lol
Ok I’m giving this a go! Thank you fir doing this!
Everyone can make as many as they'd like! One is fine, 30 is fine! 😘
Oh yes! 💕💕💕
I am joining. I don’t know if I will be able to make three.
