Sunglasses Bag Pattern (FREE)

Make this adorable drawstring Sunglasses Bag in just an hour or two and you'll have a soft, safe place to keep your sunglasses, everyday glasses, or readers. Maybe even hang a bag from your car's rearview mirror so your sunglasses are always handy!


Materials:

I Love This Cotton yarn (pictured in Aqua) [3.5oz/100g; 180yds/165m; 100% Cotton]

Small amount of contrasting yarn for drawstring

Size 3.5mm (U.S. Size 4) knitting needles

Yarn Needle

Optional charms/beads


Gauge: 18 sts & 24 rows = 4" in stockinette stitch

Finished Size: 3"x7"


Abbreviations:

k - knit

k2tog - knit 2 stitches together

p - purl

RS/WS - right/wrong side

st(s) - stitche(es)


Instructions:

Cast on 15 sts.

Row 1: (RS) knit across.

Row 2: purl across.

Row 3: (eyelet row) k1, (yo, k2tog) across.

Row 4: purl across.


Continue working in stockinette stitch (knitting across the RS and purling across the WS) until the piece measures 7" from the cast-on edge.


Next RS Row: (turning row) purl across.

Next Row: purl across.


Continue working in stockinette stitch (knitting across the RS and purling across the WS) until the piece measures ~6.5" from the turning row.


Repeat Rows 3 & 4.

Work 2 more rows in stockinette stitch, then bind off across the RS in k.


Finishing:

Close up the sides of the bag with zipper stitch.* (See below)

Weave in all ends.

Make a drawstring rope with three 36" strands of contrasting yarn. (See How to Make a Yarn Rope Video)

Weave drawstring through the eyelet round and tie the ends of the drawstring together.

Add charms & beads, if preferred.

*Zipper Stitch:

Thread the tapestry or yarn needle with one of the yarn colors to match either of the panels you will sew together. Attach panels at Panel Point Row 24/Main Panel Row 1 by stitching under the horizontal bar between the two knit columns at the inner edge of one panel, then stitching under the horizontal bar between the two knit columns at the inner edge of the adjacent panel. Continue working up the two panels, sewing them together by “zippering” back and forth between the horizontal bars. In this way you will create an invisible seam, as the outermost knit columns of each panel will disappear behind the work.
